A Day with Dad at Pretend City
What better way to dedicate the month of June to dad then by going to Pretend City!
In honor of Father's Day, the girls had a special day with dad at Pretend City! We started the day off by enjoying an activity of Smart Art, "Dad Rocks!". This adorable activity was inspired by how dads are the rock of our families, so this was our little tribute to daddy.
The girls were able to strut and practice their fine motor skills by painting rocks. Aria enjoyed focusing on her art skills while Mila was familiarizing herself with new materials and getting used to painting.
The Smart Art room is very colorful and definitely inspires the little ones to create!
After we let our rocks dry, we followed the girls lead and let them show dad around Pretend City. I'm usually in the forefront, but on this day I was behind the scenes capturing Antonio's special day with the girls! It was very interesting switching spots with Dad for a day because usually Mommy's the one navigating through activities and places with the girls and dad's behind the camera taking great snapshots and editing all our photos. It really made me appreciate the work my husband does in regards to photography and editing while I enjoy being the informative storyteller, having a blast with the girls wherever we are--and documenting it on my Instagram and Blog.
Pretend City's hub is right in the middle where you will see a traffic circle and lots of cars for children to get in and start exploring. The kids made sure to make a pit stop here and show dad around. Mila was interested in the push walkers because of the fun toys attached to them that she could fiddle with. While Aria was enjoying getting in the coup and practicing driving around and even parking in the assigned parking spaces! It was seriously so cute to watch. For those of you who haven't been to Pretend City yet, it's literally a little city that's brought down to kid size, so that they can learn about the world around them, but on their own level.
Since it's summer time, the kids made sure to stop by the Pretend City Beach! It's an area with a big sandbox for lots of sensory play.
Mila enjoyed feeling the sand and getting used to having it go between her fingers. Aria enjoyed taking the beach toys and playing with them, scooping sand in and out.
The last stop the girls made was to the newly opened Music Room! If you haven't checked this out and your kiddos are music lovers..this room is a must. An adult leads the room and teaches the children about what different instruments there are while they sit on pillows set on the floor.
Kids are then asked to participate and practice playing on the instruments as well, so that they can get a feel for them. Then the children are encouraged to learn more about the instruments by being directed to the instrument wall where the instruments are categorized by wind, string, percussion and brass.
After the lesson, we had a little dance party and enjoyed listening to jazzy instrumentals. The kids enjoyed ending the day by sharing a dance with dad! After a good few hours at Pretend City, the kids were tuckered out and ready for a nap. We enjoyed celebrating dad and still continue to throughout the month of June as it's also my husband's birthday month!
