5 Reasons You Should Go to A Parenting Convention
MommyCon & DaddyCon show parents the Ins and Outs of Baby and Toddler hood.
Did you know that there's conventions made just for parents? MommyCon & DaddyCon bridges education and learning with interactive exhibitor halls, tons of product testing, and workshops. It is the perfect hub for expectant parents and for those with children 3 and under (although I feel like there's still a lot that pertains up to age 5) to check out the latest products and to brush up on how to "Discipline Your Kids Without Losing Your S**t."
We previously attended the parent company's first KidCon in Anaheim a couple of months back at Great Wolf Lodge. You can read my article "Lewis Littles Do KidCon Anaheim 2019" to get a overall feel for the event. We were ecstatic to come back and cover MommyCon & DaddyCon this year! Furthermore, I was excited to have my husband become immersed in Daddyhood. It's a breath of fresh air to show guys that they aren't just accessories to us at parenting conventions--which are most often focused on just women.
Okay, so let's get to that list of 5 reasons why you should go to a parenting convention--and more specifically why this is the one to go to!
1. Location, location, location:
Anaheim is the best destination for families! You can plan other fun outings to complement your convention stay such as buying tickets to Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, or Adventure City. That's just a straight give-in, especially with Orange County being known for having sunny weather practically all year long.
2. Great Wolf Lodge is The Most Kid-Friendly Hotel:
This hotel has it all..from its woodland hotel and rooms theme to breakfast dining with their mascots. Kids will have so many options during your stay. Some kid amenities include kid-friendly restaurants, their popular indoor water park, an amazing candy shop, an arcade with the best prizes you've ever seen, and stores like Build-a-Bear to buy your child a commemorative gift. My favorite part about Great Wolf Lodge is that they are festive! Since the convention was in October we got to check out their Howl-O-Ween decor. We were so impressed to see that they even included decorations to celebrate Dia de Los Muertos.
3. Photo Ops Galore for The Grammer in You:
Everywhere you turn, there are so many amazing photo ops to share on your social media outlets or even for your own keepsakes. And if you LOVE to overgram like me on Instagram, this event is photo op central! Some of the backdrops included fun animal themes, a soft floral set up for new moms, and balloon wall creations from Twisted 4 Balloons.
4. Run Into Familiar Faces Or Make New Friends:
Because we're locals--we were able to run into a ton of blogger friends! Not to mention, you are more likely to see your favorite blogger or Instagrammer at these kinds of events because of their popularity. Also, since we're all in the same season of our lives, it's easy to make new connections with parents you don't know! It's honestly such a welcoming experience--perfect for new parents.
During the event we ran into some Mommy Bloggers from my tribe, the Los Angeles Mommy Blogger Tribe! Bloggers in attendance (in order from left to right) included me, Vanessa Barrios from MamaHood Adventures and my Co-Founder for The Museum Mamas, Laura Kyttanen from The Laura Kyttanen Blog, and Shauna Earl from According to Shauna.
5. Finally, Vendors Galore:
If you have wiggly kids like mine and aren't able to make it to the workshops, the exhibit hall will keep you, hubby, and the kids extremely busy!
The first stop we made was at the Tot Squad Baby Gear Services table! We just came straight from lunch and the stroller had so much snack debris. We were able to drop off our stroller and came back to it vacuumed, wiped, and smelling great. While most parents know Tot Squad for stroller repairs and cleanings--they also provide a service for car seat installations. They will be launching a new service where they will be making house calls to baby proof, too. It's a great resource for busy parents!
One of the kid highlights of our day was enjoying a parent and kid-friendly performance from The Beat Buds. You can literally find them at all the major kids events like Littlepalooza which is annually held in Long Beach, CA! If you do not know the smash duo Jonny and Matty, check out their page for upcoming gigs. They are so good at pumping both kids and parents up, and are not afraid to get down to the kids' level and beat on drums with them. If you need entertainment for a birthday party or a play date, these are the guys to call! They also provide in-home weekly jam sessions to introduce music classes at an early age. And believe me, they are amazing with kids! They flawlessly get children to listen and follow instructions while staying excited and attentive about the music.
The other kid highlight of our day was the OC Bubble Pop section! They had such a thoughtful set up. One side was for a photo booth where you could Email or Text yourself a picture, boomerang, or GIF while a bubble machine blows bubbles your way. The other side was set up so kids could take turns being inside of a bubble. If you can't wait for the next convention to check out OC Bubble Pop, you can visit them at their physical location in Tustin, CA. They offer interactive bubble stations for learning and play, and can be booked for private events, play dates, and birthday parties! I also have to mention that their employees are absolutely patient with the children and know exactly how to teach taking turns while promoting fun and kindness.
One of our favorite vendors we found at the exhibit were Beau & Belle. They are a small family-owned business ran by a knowledgeable and environmentally-conscious woman! The company's mission statement is to spread awareness about excessive waste dumped in landfills due to disposable swim diapers. They push forward with their message by making reusable diapers with the cutest prints! If you have been following me this year, you know that I am a practicing minimalist who believes in sustainability. In areas like OC and LA where we hit the beaches often, we want to make sure that we are not adding disposable swim diapers to the waste equation. Beau & Belle have been featured in The Rachel Ray Show, Forbes Magazine, and news stations such as KMGH Denver ABC 7.
One of the most interesting vendors we met were B&N All Natural. It's a company that tackles set stains using goat milk! The owner Rachel Bollins continually works to develop new products that are chemical-free. They are known for their goat milk laundry soap, stain stick, goat milk liquid detergent, and laundry scent booster. They had samples at their booths that we got to smell and my favorite scent from the laundry scent boosters was the lavender! It smelled just like lavender, but was not an overwhelming scent.
My husband's most meaningful experience at the convention was checking out the Naked Panda Designs booth. The company creates versatile baby carriers and is known for baby carriers that grow with your family and being able to tandem carry two baby carriers at the same time! The owner and creator of this baby carrier is a military wife, so with that in mind she wanted to make baby carriers that her husband would like. And in turn, baby carriers and prints other dads would grow to love, too! Their booth was extremely helpful in having my anti-babywearing husband learn how to comfortably carry our 24-month-old. My current carrier is very girly in his eyes, but he liked the neutral designs they had. He still can't stop talking about the carrier he tried, so we'll have to probably get one of his own soon!
If you're an expectant parent or a parent of a toddler, this is an event I suggest not missing out on! If you missed this event in Anaheim, you can attend MommyCon San Diego 2019 on November 23rd at the San Diego Marriott Mission Valley Hotel. The next DaddyCons will not take place until next year in the following cities: Chicago, Anaheim, Orlando.
As always, be sure to check out the full event on my IG: @ happiestjenonearth for highlights of the event under "MommyCon: Anaheim." And be on the look out for video coverage of the event on my IGTV coming soon!
